梅雨つゆの時期じき、車くるまのボンネット（エンジンの上うえにあるカバー）に猫ねこが入はいり込こむトラブルが増ふえています。春はるに生うまれたばかりの子猫こねこが、雨あめや風かぜを避よけるために温あたたかいエンジンルームに入はいってしまうことが原因げんいんです。車くるまを運転うんてんする前まえに、猫ねこがいないか確認かくにんする「猫ねこチェック」が呼よびかけられています。

猫ねこチェックのやり方かたは簡単かんたんです。まず、エンジンをかける前まえに、車くるまのボンネットを優やさしくコンコンと叩たたきます。これを「猫ねこバンバン」と呼よびます。強つよく叩たたきすぎると猫ねこが驚おどろいてもっと奥おくに入はいってしまうため、優やさしく叩たたくことが大切たいせつです。次つぎに、車くるまから猫ねこの鳴なき声こえや動うごく音おとが聞きこえないか、耳みみを澄すませて静しずかに聞ききます。もし音おとが聞きこえたり、長ながい間あいだ車くるまを使つかっていなかったりしたときは、ボンネットを開あけて中なかを確認かくにんしてください。

The cat check is simple. First, before starting the engine, gently tap the car bonnet — knock knock. This is called 'Neko Banban' (cat knock). Tapping too hard can startle the cat and cause it to retreat further inside, so gentle tapping is key. Next, listen carefully and quietly for any sounds of meowing or movement coming from the car. If you hear a sound, or if the car hasn't been used for a long time, open the bonnet and check inside.
