Windows 11 users might soon have a much cleaner search menu without distracting ads and recommendations. Microsoft is testing a new design that removes these extra features to help users find what they need more quickly.
Currently, when you open the search menu in Windows 11, you see your recent searches alongside many distracting tiles. These tiles include things like trending searches, daily quizzes, game recommendations, and the image of the day. In the new version, the search home screen will only display your recent searches.
Microsoft is also changing how search results are shown. The system will display the most relevant answer first instead of showing related products and promotions. Furthermore, the search menu will prioritize your local files, applications, and settings, making them appear before web suggestions or store recommendations. Users will even have the option to turn off web and store recommendations completely in the settings.
In addition to these design changes, the search system will work better when you make spelling mistakes or type only part of a word. The update is currently being tested by Windows Insiders in the Experimental channel as Microsoft works to improve the Windows experience.
