A 66-year-old man from Canada has finally found his biological family after searching for more than 50 years. Avtar Singh used an artificial intelligence chatbot called ChatGPT to connect with his half-sister in London.

after + -ing= 〜した後に(前置詞 after の後に動詞の -ing 形を置く表現)

Avtar grew up in Amritsar, India, during the 1960s. He was raised by his grandmother, who gave him the nickname "Titu." At age nine, he moved to Canada to join his father. However, his biological mother was not there. His father only told him that her name was Savinder, but gave him no other details.

For decades, Avtar tried to find his mother. He searched on Google, checked social media, and even visited public records in London. Unfortunately, he found nothing because "Savinder" is a common name. He was also careful about his privacy, so he decided not to take a DNA test.

decide not to + verb= 〜しないことにする、〜しないと決める(否定の不定詞)

In May 2026, while on holiday in France, Avtar decided to try a new tool. He entered the few details he knew about his mother into ChatGPT. To his surprise, the AI chatbot found a match. It pointed to an online tribute written by a woman named Nicci Dhamu in London. Nicci had posted the message in memory of her late mother, Savinder Kaur Nagi.

To one's surprise= 驚いたことに(予期せぬ結果を表す表現)

The tribute contained small details that matched Avtar's past, including a photograph of a school certificate near Amritsar. Avtar contacted Nicci right away. When they spoke on the phone, Nicci recognized his childhood nickname, Titu. She confirmed that they were half-siblings.

Sadly, their mother passed away in late 2024. However, the connection brought great comfort to both Avtar and Nicci. Avtar plans to visit his new family in London, proving how modern technology can help solve long-standing family mysteries.

pass away= 亡くなる、他界する(die の丁寧・婉曲な表現)
