Scottish runner Josh Kerr delighted home fans in Glasgow by winning the Commonwealth Games gold medal in the men's mile. The 28-year-old athlete pulled ahead in the final 250 metres to finish first with a time of 3 minutes 54.12 seconds.
The race started at a slow pace as runners stayed close together in a crowded pack. Kerr waited patiently near the back before moving up to third place with one lap remaining. He then unleashed a powerful sprint that left his opponents behind, giving him enough time to smile and wave to the cheering crowd before crossing the finish line.
"It doesn't get any better than this," Kerr said after his victory. He shared how meaningful it was to win in Scotland, where he first learned to race as a child.
Australia's 20-year-old Cam Myers took the silver medal in 3:55.26, while Kenya's Timothy Cheruiyot earned the bronze.
Kerr's victory comes just two weeks after he set a new world record in the mile. With world titles and Olympic medals already to his name, Kerr continues his impressive season as he sets his sights on future achievements in distance running.
