Australian actor Uli Latukefu has been cast as the villain Ganondorf in the upcoming live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. Industry reports say Latukefu has signed a deal for more than one film. This may mean that Nintendo and Sony Pictures are planning a larger film universe or a trilogy for the franchise.
The live-action movie was first announced in 2023. Wes Ball is directing it, and Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad are producing it. Filming has already wrapped, and the movie is scheduled to release in theaters on April 30, 2027. Latukefu joins a cast that includes Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link.
New cast members have also been revealed, including Dichen Lachman as Impa and Yvonne Strahovski as a queen character, alongside the late Sam Neill in an unconfirmed role.
Nintendo has not officially confirmed a multi-movie series. However, expanding Zelda follows the massive box-office success of Nintendo's recent Super Mario animated films. Nintendo also plans to release a Switch 2 remake of Ocarina of Time in 2026.
