As AI-generated tracks increasingly flood music streaming platforms, Spotify is introducing a new labeling system designed to help listeners distinguish human musicians from virtual performers. Under the new policy, accounts identified as AI-generated artists will display a distinct badge and will be excluded from users' personalized recommendation feeds unless a listener explicitly follows them.

distinguish A from B= AとBを識別する・区別する

The new "AI Persona" badge will be visibly displayed across multiple areas of the platform, including artist profile banners, about sections, search results, and playlist track listings. Importantly, Spotify clarified that the badge targets an artist's public identityspecifically identifying fully synthetic personas—rather than human musicians who merely use AI software as part of their creative or production process.

rather than= 〜ではなく(前者の選択肢を強調する表現)

Musicians and listeners have largely welcomed the move as a necessary step to preserve transparency and protect human creators. Alex Winn, a 19-year-old guitarist in the British band Swindled, described the feature as a positive development, noting that emerging bands already struggle to compete for visibility. He emphasized that audiences seek emotional connection in music, something synthetic artists cannot truly replicate. Listeners also noted that AI tracks are becoming increasingly difficult to spot, making clear visual badges essential for informed listening choices.

struggle to compete= (〜のために)競合・競争するのに苦戦する

To manage the rollout, Spotify hopes AI profile owners will voluntarily self-disclose their nature, though the platform will also review suspicious accounts that meet its criteria. Flagged accounts will have the option to appeal, and each badge will specify whether the AI status was self-disclosed or applied following Spotify's review. The platform noted it already receives tens of thousands of daily submissions via its AI Credits feature, where human musicians disclose specific AI tools used in their tracks.
