Humanoid Robot Outruns Usain Bolt's 100m World Record

A humanoid robot has sprinted faster than Usain Bolt's famous 100-meter world record at the World Humanoid Robot Games in China.

Developed by the Beijing Innovation Centre of Humanoid Robotics, the robot completed the 100-meter run in just 9.39 seconds. That time beats the long-standing human world record of 9.58 seconds, set by eight-time Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt in 2009.

In the 100-meter event, the robot outperformed two other competitors. One of them was a machine built by Chinese smartphone maker Honor, which company officials say reached 9.32 seconds during a private test run.

The sprint competition was only part of the World Humanoid Robot Games, which opened on Saturday. Alongside athletic events like boxing and football, participating robots are also competing in everyday tasks such as folding laundry.
