Ethiopian runner Yomif Kejelcha has set a new world record in the men's half marathon. He ran the race in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Sunday in just 56 minutes and 51 seconds.
Kejelcha, who is 29 years old, beat the previous world record by 29 seconds. That record was set earlier this year by Jacob Kiplimo of Uganda, who ran 57 minutes and 20 seconds in Lisbon.
This is not the first time Kejelcha has held the record. In October 2024, he set a world record time of 57 minutes and 30 seconds in Valencia, Spain, before Kiplimo broke it in March.
Kejelcha is one of the fastest distance runners in the world. He also holds the world record for the 10,000-meter road race and won a silver medal at the World Athletics Championships. Earlier this year, he ran a marathon in less than two hours in London, finishing just 11 seconds behind the winner.
