Why UK Students Are Getting Paid £2,000 to Play Video Games

University students in the UK can now earn £2,000 just for playing video games while working on their degrees.

The University of Roehampton offers special esports scholarships for students who are good at gaming and also get good grades. Scholars must play in weekly university competitions and represent the school at live events.

Former student Cameron Dray received the scholarship. He said the money helped him live in an expensive city without needing a part-time job. The scholarship started at £1,500, but it rose to £2,000 because the team performed so well.

In England, the average student leaves university with more than £47,500 in debt. Professional Trackmania player Thomas Cole believes gaming scholarships help reduce financial stress. This allows students to focus better on both gaming and studying.

Money expert Tom Allingham says many students miss out on extra funding. Many scholarships go unclaimed because students do not know they qualify for them.
