Swimmers will soon have a new way to track their performance in the pool. Speedo has launched a removable smart module for its popular Vanquisher swim goggles that analyzes your movements while you swim.
The new Speedo iQ system uses specialized sensors to track head movements in the water. It can automatically recognize all four main swim strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. The device also counts distance per stroke and records breath timing.
Unlike some other smart goggles on the market, the Speedo iQ does not have a screen built into the lenses. Instead, it automatically sends workout data to an accompanying smartphone app, allowing swimmers to check their stats after leaving the pool. The module can also be transferred to a new pair of Vanquisher goggles if the original pair needs replacement.
The Speedo iQ system costs $189 with the goggles included and does not require a monthly subscription. It has also been approved for use during official World Aquatics competitions.
