Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz has reached the US Open quarter-finals after beating American seed Tommy Paul in straight sets. Alcaraz won the fourth-round match 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in New York, continuing his strong performance at the tournament. The victory means he has won all four of his matches so far without dropping a single set.
The 23-year-old Spaniard performed at a high level despite missing nearly five months earlier this year because of a right wrist injury. With this win, the seven-time Grand Slam champion extended his major match-winning streak to 18 and reached the US Open quarter-finals for the fifth time in six career appearances.
During the match, Paul pressured Alcaraz with fast shots, but the second seed stayed aggressive on his serve and return games. Although Alcaraz briefly lost focus near the finish line in the third set, he quickly regrouped and sealed the win with a powerful forehand.
Alcaraz will play either American Ben Shelton or Greek player Stefanos Tsitsipas in the next round. Speaking after his victory, Alcaraz said he enjoys playing in New York, where he won his first Grand Slam title four years ago.
