A government food inspector named Tukaram Mundhe shared these pictures to show people why kitchen cleanliness matters.
Mundhe is 51 years old and works in the state of Maharashtra. Since May, he and his team have inspected thousands of restaurants, cafes, and food stores. He stops dirty kitchens from operating and pauses business permissions when owners break public health rules.
Many people in India support his strong enforcement drive. Videos of his surprise kitchen checks are now very popular online, and Mundhe has gained over 3.8 million followers on Instagram. Customers like that he makes hidden kitchen conditions visible to the public.
However, some restaurant owners argue that his actions are too harsh. They say he closes businesses immediately instead of giving them time to fix minor problems first. In one case, a court ruled that his department went too far after keeping a sweet shop closed for too long.
