Canada will join the Eurovision Song Contest for the first time in 2027. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Canada's public broadcaster, CBC/Radio-Canada, announced the news on July 1, 2026. Canada will be the first new country to join the musical competition since Australia entered in 2015.
CBC/Radio-Canada recently became a full member of the EBU, making it possible for Canada to participate. The executive supervisor of the Eurovision Song Contest, Martin Österdahl, welcomed Canada's entry. He said that the event "continues to welcome the world."
The 2027 contest will take place in Bulgaria. This is because Bulgaria's pop singer Dara won the 2026 contest in Vienna with her dance song "Bangaranga." It was the country's first Eurovision victory.
Although Canada has never competed as a nation before, Canadian singers have participated in the past. Most famously, Canadian superstar Céline Dion won the Eurovision Song Contest for Switzerland in 1988.
CBC/Radio-Canada has not yet decided how they will choose the Canadian singer and song. The broadcaster stated that they will share more details about the selection process later in 2026.
