A new video game called Dosa Divas is winning praise for combining turn-based combat with a heartwarming story about food, family, and standing up to big corporations. While many role-playing games (RPGs) take dozens of hours to finish, Dosa Divas tells a complete, exciting story in less than 10 hours.
The game is set in a world where a powerful corporation has made cooking illegal. The company wants to control the food market by forcing everyone to eat a tasteless nutrient paste. This policy destroys local cultures, like that of a traditional fishing village where residents are no longer allowed to fish.
To save their culture, two sisters named Samara and Amani decide to fight back. However, the battle is highly personal: the evil corporation is run by their youngest sister, Lina. Along their journey, the sisters even have to battle their own parents, representing the deep and often painful arguments that can happen within families.
In terms of gameplay, Dosa Divas plays like a classic RPG. Players take turns attacking and defending, using timed button presses to block damage or hit harder. Players can also play quick minigames to cook delicious meals. These meals can heal the characters or feed hungry citizens to help build support in different towns. The game’s colorful, stylized graphics make the food look incredibly realistic and appetizing.
Critics have praised the game for removing the boring parts of traditional RPGs. There is no "grinding"—the chore of fighting simple enemies repeatedly just to make characters stronger. Instead, the game focuses on a strong, emotional story. It shows that food is not just about survival, but also about culture, memory, and connecting with the people we love.
Dosa Divas is currently available on PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 5.
