Many people around the world are changing their work schedules and sleeping less to watch the World Cup. This "World Cup fever" is causing a drop in productivity at many companies.

A survey by payroll provider UKG found that more than one-third of workers worldwide plan their work schedules around soccer matches. One-quarter of the workers said they would push the limits of what their managers allow. Also, 11% of the people surveyed admitted they would probably work with a hangover or be less productive after watching a match.

In the United States alone, this drop in productivity could cost businesses nearly $12 billion.

For small business owners like Desiree Lomer-Clarke, who walks and trains dogs, the tournament has changed everything. She has scheduled all her meetings around the games and even convinced some clients to meet during their work hours.

"I've been tired. I've been sleepy, and I've been half checked-in to work," Lomer-Clarke said.

As the World Cup ends this Sunday, many workers will have to return to their normal schedules. Although employers may be happy to get their productive workers back, some fans are already feeling sad that the soccer party is ending for another four years.
