During a blistering heatwave that saw Paris temperatures reach a staggering 106 degrees Fahrenheit, a surreal art installation brought an unexpected touch of magic to the city. French artist JR transformed the Pont Neuf, Paris's oldest bridge over the Seine, into a massive, rocky cave.

The temporary installation was constructed using layers of inflated fabric designed to look like rugged mountain terrain. Passersby were invited to step inside the cavern, leaving the sun-drenched streets of Paris for a dark, mysterious passage.

Inside the structure, however, the cave offered little physical relief from the intense heat. Rectangular fans installed along the dark walls blew hot air around, creating a humid environment that felt more like a traditional hammam steam room than a cool underground refuge.

Despite the lack of air conditioning, the installation captured the imagination of hot and exhausted Parisians. For a brief moment, the magical visual experience allowed visitors to forget the sweat and discomfort of the extreme summer heat.
