British sprinter Amy Hunt overcame a slow start to win her first major title in the women's 100-meter race at the European Athletics Championships.
The 24-year-old runner was still behind with 30 meters left in the race. However, she stayed calm and used her strong finish to pass her competitors, crossing the finish line in 11.00 seconds. Ewa Swoboda of Poland won the silver medal with a time of 11.02 seconds, while Delphine Nkansa of Belgium took bronze in 11.06 seconds.
Hunt's victory comes after years of difficult challenges. When she was 18, she was the world's fastest young runner over 200 meters. But severe injuries later threatened her career. A few years ago, she tore a muscle in her leg so badly that her mother had to help her out of the shower.
After winning silver at the Commonwealth Games two weeks ago, Hunt felt ready for the pressure of a major final. Before the race, she stayed relaxed by listening to music and playing online word games like Wordle.
Following her 100-meter win, Hunt announced that she wants to win four gold medals at the tournament, including the 200-meter event and two relay races. Quoting a famous song by the band Queen, she declared, "I want it all."
