More than one billion people now use artificial intelligence chatbots like ChatGPT and Google's Gemini every month. This milestone shows how quickly AI tools have become a part of daily life for work, learning, and communication around the world.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced that Gemini recently reached one billion monthly active users, making it the fastest-growing product in Google's history. Much of Gemini's rapid growth comes from mobile devices. The app comes pre-installed on Android smartphones, while Gemini chief Josh Woodward shared that more than 100 million people actively use the app on Apple iOS devices.
OpenAI's ChatGPT also crossed the one-billion-user mark recently. ChatGPT was the first AI chatbot to gain global popularity, reaching 900 million weekly active users in February. Although its growth has slowed slightly since earlier this year, it remains one of the most widely used AI platforms.
As AI competition tightens globally with other tools like Anthropic's Claude and new models from China, the race for total user count is changing. Technology companies are now focusing on creating helpful new features for their massive user bases and finding sustainable ways to generate revenue.
