Nearly three decades after making his professional stage debut at London’s Barbican theatre as a teenager, acclaimed Japanese actor Tatsuya Fujiwara is returning to the venue to headline a theatrical adaptation of Haruki Murakami’s seminal science fiction novel, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World.

Nearly three decades after V-ing= 表明在首次事件發生特定時間間隔之後的里程碑

The international production, directed by renowned French choreographer Philippe Decouflé, represents an ambitious attempt to translate Murakami's surreal, multi-layered literary universe onto the global stage. The novel, written over forty years ago, intertwines two distinct narratives: a cyberpunk thriller set in a dystopian Tokyo, and a dreamlike fantasy taking place within a walled town where residents are stripped of their memories and shadows.

translate X onto Y= 將某種媒介或領域的內容轉化或呈現於另一平台

Fujiwara, now 44, stars as Watashi, a human data processor known as a "Calcutec" who encrypts information through mind alteration before unraveling a sinister conspiracy hidden in his own subconscious. The parallel narrative follows Boku, a newcomer tasked with reading dreams from the skulls of dead unicorns. Despite the abstract and allegorical nature of the original text, director Decouflé and producer Miyako Kanamori of entertainment company HoriPro relied heavily on visual choreography and movement to convey the story's psychological depth beyond spoken dialogue.

relied heavily on X to V= 大力仰賴某種方法或手段以達成目標

Following its Tokyo premiere in January and subsequent international stops in Singapore, the Japanese-language production—accompanied by English surtitles—will complete its global tour with runs at the Barbican this autumn and in Paris. The tour arrives amid a broader surge of global interest in Japanese arts and entertainment, offering audiences a rare opportunity to experience homegrown Japanese theatrical storytelling on an international scale.

amid a broader surge of= 在更大範圍的激增或趨勢背景之下
