British sprinter Amy Hunt secured her third gold medal in just five days at the European Championships, helping Great Britain’s 4x100-meter relay team power to a dominant victory. The team finished in 42.05 seconds, crossing the line more than 10 meters ahead of silver medalists Switzerland and bronze medalists Poland.
After the race, Hunt celebrated the victory by highlighting the unique talents of her teammates, calling the group a team of "superwomen."
Each member of the relay team brought a unique story to the track. Lead-off runner Dina Asher-Smith equaled the record of 10 total European Championship medals set by Polish legend Irena Szewinska, solidifying her status as one of Europe's most decorated sprinters. Third-leg runner Success Eduan, a 21-year-old rising star, is currently balancing elite athletics with her studies to become a midwife. Anchor runner Imani-Lara Lansiquot, who safely brought the baton across the finish line, is also an accomplished playwright.
The British women were inspired by a direct message from relay coach Richard Kilty, who urged them before the race to "go out and break their hearts."
Hunt now stands on the brink of history. On Sunday, she will compete in the mixed 4x100-meter relay, aiming to become the first athlete ever to win four gold medals at a single European Championships.
It was a night of double success for British sprinting. Just fifteen minutes before the women's victory, the British men's 4x100-meter relay team—featuring Jeremiah Azu, Louie Hinchliffe, Zharnel Hughes, and Romell Glave—also captured gold, winning in 38.45 seconds ahead of Germany and Belgium.
