A new mobile game created by an independent developer in Manchester has surprised the gaming world by beating global hits like Minecraft to reach the top of Apple's paid games chart in the UK. The game, called No 10: Full Confidence, allows players to step into the shoes of the British prime minister and try to remain in power for as long as possible.

step into the shoes of= 接替某人的位置、體驗某人的角色

Created by Benjamin Brewis of Sleepy Boy Games, the political simulation places players in charge of navigating over 300 fictional political scenarios. Players must carefully balance four main factions to survive in office: their cabinet, backbench MPs, the media, and the general public. Making a decision in each scenario can either please or anger these groups. Just like in real politics, if any single group completely turns against the prime minister, their political career ends immediately.

turn against= 轉而反對(某人)、與(某人)反目

The storylines in the game range from serious policy choices, such as managing hospital waiting times, to humorous situations like dealing with a lobbyist releasing a dog into the House of Lords. Brewis said he drew inspiration from real-life British political events, including frequent leadership struggles. He started developing the app in late 2025 after watching constant drama in Westminster, where five different prime ministers have held office since 2016.

range from ... to ...= 範圍涵蓋從A到B

No 10: Full Confidence is part of a growing interest in political strategy games in the UK. Other recent titles include Fantasy Parliament, a browser game where players draft real MPs and track their real-life media performance, and the upcoming UK Politics Simulator.

While it remains unclear whether any actual politicians have played the game, Brewis mentioned that friends working in the UK civil service have given him feedback on its accuracy. According to them, real-life politics is just like the game, but even worse.

civil service= 文官系統、政府公務員體系

  • 遊戲名稱中的「Full Confidence(完全信任)」源自英國內閣制中的信任投票制度,若首相失去所屬政黨或下議院的信任,就必須辭職。
