Thousands of people covered each other in bright red pulp as Spain’s famous "La Tomatina" festival got underway. The massive event is one of the world's biggest food fights.

During the one-hour celebration, participants pelted each other with around 150,000 kilograms of tomatoes. Streets and crowds were quickly covered in red mash as people threw fruit in every direction.
