Range Rover has officially unveiled its new Range Rover Electric, an all-electric SUV that keeps the classic look of the brand's traditional gas-powered luxury vehicles. Rather than designing a futuristic or unusual vehicle shape, the automaker chose a familiar appearance for drivers who prefer classic styling in an electric car.
Underneath the traditional exterior, the vehicle features entirely modern technology. Twin electric motors powered by a 118.5 kWh lithium-ion battery provide an estimated real-world driving range of 330 miles. Its all-wheel drive system generates 542 horsepower, delivering power comparable to a traditional V8 engine, and allows the SUV to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds.
The SUV features an 800-volt system that supports fast charging. With a 350 kW charger, the battery can go from 10 to 80 percent charge in 22 minutes, adding around 137 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Range Rover engineered the EV for off-road performance. Its traction system adjusts motor power on slippery surfaces like ice, mud, or loose gravel in 50 milliseconds—100 times faster than mechanical gears in gas vehicles. Fully sealed motors and battery components allow the vehicle to drive through up to three feet of water. It can also navigate 45-degree slopes using one-pedal driving, while a built-in heat pump reuses excess heat to preserve up to 25 miles of range in freezing temperatures.
The Range Rover Electric is available for order starting at £154,070 in the UK (approximately $140,450 in the US). It will be built at the company's Solihull plant alongside gas and hybrid models.
